Trump says it’s too late for another debate after Harris campaign accepts CNN invite

The likelihood of another debate between Harris and Trump looks to be nil after the former President said, “It’s just too late, voting has already started.”

Vice President Kamala Harris on Saturday accepted CNN’s invitation to attend a second debate with former President Donald Trump. However, her opponent in the 2024 presidential race made it clear shortly after learning about her decision that he has no intention of meeting her face-to-face again.

While speaking at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, Trump said that while it would be “great entertainment value” that he has already done two debates. Furthermore, “the problem with another debate is that it’s just too late, voting has already started,” he told the crowd.

Had Trump accepted the offer, the CNN debate would’ve taken place on October 23, just under two weeks before Election Day. The network said that the format for the event would be the same as when Trump debated President Joe Biden to remove excuses for him not to attend.

The former president said during his rally that “CNN was very fair” in his opinion. The June event which went poorly for Biden saw him “driven out of the race” Trump said. However, he claimed because of that the network was attacked by the “radical left” and wouldn’t be fair again to him.

He then complained about his debate with Harris hosted by ABC, which saw her bait Trump like a professional fly-fisher causing him to become unhinged and make even crazier than usual statements. One of those being spread by his vice presidential pick JD Vance, even though after he had been told that it was baseless, has seen the far-right descend on the town of Springfield, Ohio and its citizens being terrorized with numerous bomb threats and other threats of violence that has forced schools, businesses, hospitals and public buildings to be put on lockdown.

Once again since the first debate, on Saturday Trump said that he “was given credit for doing a very good job,” polls taken after the debate would suggest otherwise, as a reason for not having to meet Harris to debate.

He also said that both of them had been invited by Fox but after he “waited and waited. They turned it down.” However, he said, “now she wants to do a debate right before the election with CNN because she’s losing badly.”

Again, polling would suggest a different story. And Trump having to go to North Carolina to drum up support for his campaign, a state that should have been a shoo-in for him, similarly shows that the Republican candidate has other reasons for not wanting a rematch against Harris.
