Trump’s military coup: bombs Houthi in Yemen, warns Iran
U.S. president Donald Trump ordered airstrikes on Yemen’s capital in response to Iranian-backed Houthi rebels targeting ship routes.

On Saturday, Donald Trump ordered a series of airstrikes on Yemen’s capital, Sana’a, aimed at at Houthi military facilities and missile defenses. At least 19 people were killed. The attack was in response to Iranian-backed Houthi rebels who started attacking military and commercial shipping routes along the maritime corridor shortly after the war in Gaza began in October 2023. Trump promised to use “overwhelming lethal force” until the Houthis back down.
The U.S. recently designated the Houthis as a “foreign terrorist organization”.

“Our brave Warfighters are right now carrying out aerial attacks on the terrorists’ bases, leaders, and missile defenses to protect American shipping, air, and naval assets, and to restore Navigational Freedom,” Trump said on Truth Social.
“No terrorist force will stop American commercial and naval vessels from freely sailing the Waterways of the World.”
Trump sends warning to Iran
Trump warned Iran to stop their support of the rebels and that the U.S. would hold them “fully accountable” for the actions of the Houthis. The airstrikes come just days after the Houthis threatened to target Israeli vessels in response to Israel’s blockade on Gaza. No attacks have been reported since then.

The U.S., Israel, and Britain have previously struck Houthi-led areas in Yemen, but this marked the first time under the second Trump administration that the U.S., with naval support, conducted the strikes independently.
