Tsunami warning cancelled in California by National Weather service

First responders had been asking people to move inland and evacuate beaches in the Bay Area, but the warning has now been cancelled..

San Francisco Fire Department were asking people to stay away from the coast after the earthquake this morning. Schools in Pacifica had taken measures to keep students safe shortly after the 7.0 earthquake hit the San Francisco region.

The San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District had stopped traffic in all directions through the underwater tunnel between San Francisco and Oakland.

Boats were returning to the San Francisco Bay area after receving the warning.

An earthquake of 7.0 magnitude was reported at 10:44 a.m. local time according to the National Tsunami Warning Center.

Officials with California State Office of Emergency Services are “actively responding to the earthquakes this morning in Northern California,” said Gov. Gavin Newsom on social media. “Californians should follow guidance from local emergency responders.”

What area has been affected in California?

The affected area went from southern Oregon through the Bay Area and down to Davenport, just north of Santa Cruz. Berkely had issued an evacuation order telling residents to move away from the coastline.
