Tucker Carlson is gone. Fox News’ main draw has parted ways with the company in as yet unknown circumstances after eight eventful years.

It appeared like Carlson did not know that his show on 21 April, last Friday, would be his last. Interim hosts will fill the role until a permanent replacement is found.

The two paragraph statement from Fox gave no reason for the decision, odd considering the celebrity status Carlson enjoyed at the company.

It has been posited that Carlson leaving is related to the settling of the Dominion voting lawsuit by Fox last week in which Carlson’s show was repeatedly refereneced as evidence in support of Dominion. The settlement cost Fox an eye-watering $787.5 million and court evidence revealed to the public that Carlson’s personal views contrasted with his output on his show, saying he “hate[s]” Trump.

Carlson is best known for his work as the host of the Tucker Carlson Tonight, which aired on Fox News until last week. The show debuted in 2016 and had become one of the most-watched cable news programmes in the country, ranking in four of the top 10 shows at the end of March.
