Two popular candy bars recalled days before Halloween
One chocolate manufacturer has announced the recall of two of its products due to the risk of severe allergic reactions.
With Halloween right around the corner, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of two Zingerman’s Candy Manufactory chocolate bars that could cause severe or even life-threatening allergic reactions.
The recall affects two products:
Recalled candy bars
- Peanut Butter Crush bars (2 oz) — Lot #174250 — may contain undeclared cashews
- Cashew Cow bars (2 oz) — Lot #174250 — may contain undeclared peanuts
According to Zingerman’s, the issue stems from a temporary mix-up during production and packaging. The company says it has already taken corrective steps to prevent future errors.
Why have Zingerman’s candy bars been recalled?
“People with allergies or severe sensitivities to cashews or peanuts are at risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” Zingerman’s said in a statement shared by the FDA. The company emphasized that no illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported so far.
The affected chocolate bars were distributed to retailers in Michigan and New York, reaching consumers through local shops and specialty stores. Zingerman’s did not specify which retailers received the products but shoppers may not be fully aware of the ingredients when purchasing.
How to return Zingerman’s candy bars
If you bought Peanut Butter Crush or Cashew Cow bars from lot #174250, you should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Alternatively, you can contact Zingerman’s Candy Manufactory at 877-632-9264 with any questions.
While no one has reported an allergic reaction yet, the FDA is urging consumers to check their candy before Halloween celebrations begin. Even a small amount of undeclared nuts could trigger dangerous reactions for those with allergies.
So before you hand out treats this year, double-check that your Halloween candy stash doesn’t include one of these recalled bars.
