Underwater enigma: 80 years later, researchers uncover fate of missing submarine
After more than eight decades, new research has revisited the clues from a World War II covert operation lost beneath the murky waters.

It had been a mystery that, for over 80 years, remained unsolved — until now. We are talking about a submarine that disappeared during World War II and that conceals a most fascinating story beneath the sea for decades.
The story of the missing WWII sub
During that era, relentless hostilities, tragic events, and armed conflicts took center stage. As a result, countless stories have been forgotten, and many remain unknown or unpublished — most sharing one common denominator: they hide enormous tragedies.
Thus, one of the most striking stories from that period is that of HMS Trooper N91. After arduous research and more than eight decades later, scientists have managed to shed light on its fate.
The HMS Trooper N91 is a British submarine that vanished on a secret mission in Greek waters. According to reports, in 1943 it was tasked with landing three agents of the Greek resistance on the island of Kalamos — that being the last known contact. In fact, the United Kingdom declared it missing, along with the more than 60 crew members on board.
In the aftermath, numerous theories swirled around this story until finally a group of researchers managed to locate the remains of the submarine off the Greek coast, at more than 820 feet deep — all thanks to the use of sonar and advanced technology.

What happened to HMS Trooper N91?
According to the investigators and scientists in charge, it is most likely that the submarine was struck by a German naval mine, causing it to break into three parts, in addition to an explosion that would have destroyed it while on the surface. They also report that the location where it disappeared was not as initially stated, and they estimate that the incident may have occurred much farther west than originally thought.
