UK media reports confirm this isn’t the first time the area has struggled with rat infestations. Although efforts were made years ago to tackle the issue, rats have come back in larger numbers than ever. These creatures are incredibly adaptable and widespread throughout Britain, especially in towns and cities where they burrow underground. Female rats can start reproducing as early as two or three months old and may have up to five litters annually — each with as many as 12 pups.
