U.S. boss asks employees to point to Spain on the map, with jobs on the line
When the man making the decisions between firing and promotions uses a simple geography test, you’d better know your world.

Something as simple as locating Spain on a world map can, apparently, become such a monumental problem that it ends in firings. At least, that was the tongue-in-cheek scenario shared by TikTok user Larryshyguy.
The video shows a mock scene where a boss, with a world map pulled up on his computer, calls several employees over and asks them to point out Spain. Surprisingly, the first two send the country across the Atlantic – confusing it with Mexico. The boss’s “solution”? Immediate dismissal.
One employee, however, confidently and correctly identifies Spain – and is rewarded with a promotion on the spot. “Larry is more Spanish than many Spaniards,” one user commented. Another added, “The fact that they don’t know where Spain is shows how U.S. history is taught without the Spanish part. The Black Legend lives on.”
The video quickly went viral, racking up around 150,000 reactions since it was posted. “Larry, you deserve a Spanish passport for how well you represented Spain,” one viewer wrote.
Others tried to defend the employees’ mistake, suggesting they may have pointed to New Spain on the map – the historical name for Spain’s former colonial territories in the Americas.
