The time Stephen Miller allegedly wanted to destroy migrant boats with a Predator drone
As Miller prepares for his new role as deputy chief of staff for policy, many are watching closely to see how his views on immigration will shape the US.
According to reports that surfaced in 2023, Miller once suggested using a Predator drone to destroy migrant boats off the coast of South America, a plan that ultimately never came to fruition.
The incident was noted by former security official Miles Taylor in his book Blowback: A Warning to Save Democracy from the Next Trump. It reportedly occurred during a March 2018 Oval Office meeting as the Trump administration grappled with an increase in migrant crossings.
Miller allegedly proposed deploying the military drone to intercept and sink boats carrying migrants before they could reach U.S. shores., arguing they weren’t protected by the constitution.
Throughout his tenure in the Trump administration, Miller championed policies that critics argue were designed to make life as difficult as possible for immigrants and asylum seekers. From the controversial travel ban to the family separation policy, Miller’s influence on immigration policy has been both significant and divisive.
The drone proposal, though rejected, remains a chilling example of the type of measures that are being considered in the pursuit of a more restrictive immigration agenda. Should Trump’s mass deportation take place, the methods used will undoubtedly be fierce and vicious.
