Kamala Harris camp begin to show signs of doubt

Earlier this evening, the Kamala Harris campaign announced plans for a celebratory gathering at her alma mater, Howard University, located in Washington, D.C. However, as election results begin to trickle in, the outlook for the Vice President appears to be diminishing, casting doubts over her evening plans. Current projections indicate that Donald Trump could potentially secure both the electoral college and the popular vote, adding to the tension of the night.

Insiders from the Harris campaign have candidly acknowledged the growing challenges in her quest for the White House. While there is a sense of pride in outperforming expectations in certain key demographics, they recognize that Trump has also made significant gains. As the evening progresses, it is becoming increasingly clear that the advancements made by the Trump-Vance ticket may overshadow Harris's efforts.

Nevada count could take some time

Nevada results could take some time because the state does not release data until the last person in line has cast their vote. Some counties reportedly had lines that involved hours of waiting.

Initial updates from the battleground state usually include mailed and early votes.

Nevada will still consider mailed ballots that arrive until Nov. 9. Nevada has tallied more than 15% of its vote after Election Day in recent history.

Trump wins swing state North Carolina

The Associated Press has called a Trump victory in battleground state North Carolina, garnering 16 electoral votes. The ex-president exhaustively stumped the state in the last few days of the campaign.

This victory gives him an easier path to collecting the 270 electoral votes he needs to get into the White House.

A third of the vote has been counted in the swing state of Michigan

A third of the election results in the swing state of Michigan have been counted and reported. Currently, Michigan is the only state in which the vice president is winning. She has a lead of 2.2 percent, and while concerning, there are still many votes left to count in the state in areas where Democrats were projected to do well.

Elon Musk provides an update on how he is seeing the election results

Game, set, match,” said the owner of X on his platform as the results were coming in, looking favorable for Donald Trump. However, experts have yet to call any of the swing states in his favor, and all of his electoral college votes are from states he was always expected to win. Musk has emerged as one of Trump's largest financial backers and has been tasked with leading the get-out-the-vote campaign in the swing states, particularly Pennsylvania.

Currently, Trump is in the lead in all swing states except Michigan, but there are still plenty of votes left to be counted. Additionally, election experts warn that early votes will be counted later, and these are likely to favor Democrats. Therefore, while the GOP is in the lead, shifts could occur as the night progresses.

Florida as red as expected

Looking at the electoral map by county in the "Sunshine State," almost all regions of Florida have moved right if anything. Miami-Dade County recorded the largest increase. The only counties showing up blue in the state are Palm Beach, Broward, Orange, Alachua, Gadsden, and Leon.

Note that a Florida ballot amendment, number 4, which looked to enshrine abortion rights in Florida law, reached 57% support, failing to reach the 60% required.

Judge denies request to extend voting hours in Pennsylvania

A judge has denied the Democrats' attempt to extend voting hours at a District 3 polling center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where wait times were hours long. The Democrats requested that voting be extended until 10 p.m. ET, but the judge ruled that only those in line by 8:00 p.m. ET would be allowed to vote.

Those in line can vote, but anyone turning up after the 8:00 p.m. cut off will be denied.

With Pennsylvania being a key swing state that could have an impact.

This is going to take a while...

If you believe that the night will conclude quickly, you are likely mistaken. As the votes come in, many states are shifting back and forth, which makes it challenging to determine a clear winner between the candidates. Republicans watching the results might think, "Wow, we're ahead!" This is indeed true; however, the states that have been called for Donald Trump are essential for his campaign. Similarly, the early call of California for the Democrats will not surprise anyone watching at home.

Donald Trump pulls ahead in the Electoral College after first round of results

As the evening progresses, polls have started to close across the East Coast, a critical moment on Election Night as results roll in.

Initial results often allow races to be called early in several states that have historically leaned consistently toward one party. The race has been officially called in favor of Donald Trump for Alabama, Kentucky, Indiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and West Virginia, demonstrating his strong foothold in these areas. Additionally, Florida and Ohio appear poised to follow suit, with forecasts suggesting that Trump is likely to secure victories there as well.

Breaking down the data from North Carolina

It's important to note that only 2 percent of the votes have been counted so far, which means significant changes are likely as more votes are tallied and reported. Currently, Kamala Harris leads with 67.3% of the vote, while Donald Trump trails with 31.6%. Both candidates still have a substantial number of votes remaining, and the race is expected to become closer in the coming hours.

Donald Trump is taking a healthy lead in Florida

As of now, with just over 60 percent of the votes tallied, Donald Trump has emerged as the frontrunner in the Sunshine State. The former president is currently leading Kamala Harris by a margin of 9 percentage points. If he is able to hold onto this advantage as more ballots are counted, it's likely that officials will declare him the winner of this race within the next few hours. However, the situation remains dynamic, as significant votes are still outstanding, particularly from major metropolitan areas like Miami. In Broward County, for instance, only 67 percent of the votes have been reported, leaving ample room for potential shifts in the overall results.

Indiana is called for Donald Trump, taking his total electoral college votes to 19. Kamala Harris sits at three as she is projected to win Vermont.

Donald Trump sends a message to his supporters

Many experts watching the election results this evening are concerned that, similar to 2020, Donald Trump may declare victory before his electoral college votes are confirmed. These claims are dangerous as some will believe that he won fair and squarely, well before any such claims can be verified. In a short video released on the former president's social media, he said that the support for the GOP was massive and that the party was "going to have a big victory tonight."

When we will know the final election results of the 2024 election?

Individuals eagerly anticipating the definitive election results will need to exercise some patience. Tonight, the final results are unlikely to be delivered.

Looking back at the 2020 election, former President Donald Trump announced his victory on election night, despite the fact that official results remained unconfirmed for several days following the polls closing. In contrast, President Joe Biden waited until Saturday to declare his own victory, as he awaited the final tally of votes from all the critical swing states. This delay underscored the complexity of the electoral process, which included the counting of millions more absentee ballots as many opted to forgo a trip to the polls because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

First results will be available before 10 pm ET

The initial election results from key battleground states, particularly Georgia and Pennsylvania, are expected to be reported before 10 p.m. ET. While some partial results may be accessible prior to this time, it is important to note that the complete final results from certain swing states may take longer to tally and will likely not be finalized until later in the evening or possibly into the following day. This final vote is expected to be close between the candidates, and the election officials will want the results to be correct. This delayed reporting can be attributed to various factors, including the volume of mail-in ballots and the complexities of the counting process in each state

Which states will see their polls close first?

Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, South Carolina, Vermont, and Virginia will be the first states to close their polling places. Except for Indiana and Kentucky, which close at 6 p.m. local time, all the other states close at 7 p.m. local time. These closing times align with each other, as these states are located in two adjacent time zones. The first results can be expected soon after the polls close, typically within the hour or the hour following the closure.

Can there be a tie in the Electoral College?

Yes, a scenario where both candidates finish with an equal number of electoral votes—specifically 269 each—is indeed possible. To achieve this tie, Kamala Harris would need to secure victories in several key swing states, namely Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, and Wisconsin. On the other hand, Donald Trump would have to successfully claim wins in Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Arizona. This electoral landscape highlights the significance of these states, as they often swing the overall outcome of presidential elections and could ultimately determine which candidate reaches the required majority of electoral votes. Perhaps tonight, we will know if this outcome is possible based on how the swing states end up voting.

Joe Rogan's last minute endorsement

Podcaster Joe Rogan, known for his engaging and sometimes controversial interviews, recently made headlines by endorsing the Republican Party on Election Day. This endorsement followed his conversations with notable figures, including Ohio Senator JD Vance and billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, both of whom have significant influence in political and business circles within the Republican base.

In a noteworthy attempt to broaden the political discourse on his platform, Rogan also invited Vice President Kamala Harris, hoping to include her perspective. However, he revealed that their teams faced scheduling conflicts, preventing them from finding a suitable time to film the interview

Other commentators, including progressive Mehdi Hasan, called attention to comments made by Rogan after the attack on the Capitol on January 6th. "One of the reasons why I think [Jan 6th] is important is because it highlights the reasons why a guy like Donald Trump is so fucking dangerous, is because a guy can incite a bunch of morons to do something really fucking stupid," said the podcaster to his audience in June 2021.

Atlanta counties seek to extend voting after bomb threats

Non-credible bomb threats in some counties in Georgia disrupted voting on Tuesday. Now, select polling places in three Atlanta-area counties are seeking to extend voting until 7:30 p.m. ET.

Two polling places in Cobb County are permitted to stay open until 7:20 p.m. ET and one in Gwinnett County will request an extension to 8 p.m. ET.

Extending the polling hours will push back the one-hour window that precincts have to report the results, although most will still be sending them in by 7 p.m. ET.

When will exit polls be available?

Exit polls are surveys of voters coming out of the polling location to gauge where the electorate is on Election Day.

Early voting complicates this exercise a bit, as Democrats are more likely to take advantage of early and mail-in voting options. The University of Florida Election Lab tracked over 85 million ballots that have been cast already. Democratic voting outpaced Republicans, but not by much (37.5 % to 35.7%).

The first exit polls will become available a little later this evening as the polls begin to close on the East Coast within the next hour or so.

Trump revokes journalists' election night credentials

Several journalists from various news organizations were denied credentials to Donald Trump's election night watch event in West Palm Beach, Florida. Many journalists who were previously given credentials later had them revoked by Trump due to their coverage of his campaign.

Reporters from Politico, Axios, Puck, Voice of America, and Mother Jones were some of those denied credentials. Tara Palmeri, Puck's political correspondent, was set to broadcast the event with Brian Williams on Amazon but after publishing a piece about "anxiety" within the Trump campaign, she had her credential denied.

Pameri spoke on the matter on a podcast called "Somebody’s Gotta Win":

Faulty machines causing voter issues in Arizona

Some serious issues in Apache County, Arizona have caused some voters to be turned away before they had a chance to cast their ballots.

Faulty machines are printing the ballots with only the propositions but not the candidates themselves, forcing the poll workers to use EVMs (express voting machines).

“This isn’t the first time Apache County has had voting issues on Election Day, but this is the worst we’ve ever seen it,” said Katherine Belzowski, assistant attorney general at the Navajo Nation Department of Justice.

Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes told voters NOT to leave if they are turned away and instead to vote using EVMs and provisional ballots, though they are quickly running out of the latter and many voters are experiencing over two-hour wait times due to the issues.

Ten states are voting on abortion-related measures today, representing about one-fifth of the U.S. population. This widespread ballot initiative comes in the wake of the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which eliminated federal protection for abortion rights.

The results of these ballot measures could not only reshape abortion access across the country but also influence voter turnout for the presidency.

Voting machines down in Cambria County, PA: Voting hours extended

A software malfunction has hampered the ability to scan ballots in Cambria County, Pennsylvania. Elections officials requested a court order to extend voting hours according to an official statement.

"The Cambria County Board of Election learned early this morning that a software malfunction in the County’s Electronic Voting System has prevented voters from scanning their ballots. This should not discourage voters from voting at their voting precincts," said Cambria County solicitor Ron Repak in a statement.

"The Board has filed a Court Order extending the time to vote within Cambria County. No one should be turned away from the polls if they wish to cast their vote," he explained.

"There is a process in place for issues of this nature. All completed ballots will be accepted, secured, and counted by the Board of Elections. The County Board of Elections has express voting machines at precinct locations to continue to allow voting electronically, while still allowing hand ballots to be cast."

Neither the Harris campaign nor the Trump campaign have said what time their candidate will address the audiences at their respective watch parties. Typically, the candidates wait until there is a clear sign that they have won before they address the crowd.

However, there has been much speculation that Trump will proclaim victory even before official results are in as he did in 2020. So, we could see Harris come out early to give a pep talk as well as make clear that the results are still a ways away.

If a tight election like 2000 is anything to go by, we could be waiting some time...

Attorney general joint statement on a peaceful election

A peaceful transfer of power is the highest testament to the rule of law, a tradition that stands at the heart of our nation’s stability. As Attorneys General, we affirm our commitment to protect our communities and uphold the democratic principles we serve. We call upon every American to vote, participate in civil discourse and, above all, respect the integrity of the democratic process. Violence has no place in the democratic process; we will exercise our authority to enforce the law against any illegal acts that threaten it.

Polls will be closing between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. ET, in a vote that is shaping up as a neck-and-neck race to the White House. If you’re taking part in this year’s election, exactly when your ballot will be counted depends on how you voted.

If you are in what’s known as a ‘central count’ voting district, your ballot will, after polls close, be transported to a central location where votes are tabulated. If you vote at a ‘precinct tabulation’ polling location, meanwhile, your ballot will be run through an on-site tabulation machine right away.

If you are one of the more than 75 million people who participated in early voting in the 2024 US election, your vote will either be counted during Election Day or after polls close, depending on which state you live in.

U.S. election officials urge voters not to be swayed by conspiracy theories

As American voters head to the polls today to choose the country’s next leader, participating in a vast democratic process in which tens of millions of ballots are expected to be cast smoothly and without incident, sadly lingering false claims of fraud in the 2020 election and repeated accusations of cheating by former President Donald Trump mean that every aspect of the voting process—from voter eligibility to logistical issues like long lines, ballot functionality, and vote counting—will be under close scrutiny, especially in key battleground states.

Election officials across the U.S., particularly in closely contested states, are committed to preserving the integrity of the vote and are urging voters not to fall for conspiracy theories.

Trump's path to the White House would break a 110-year record

Grover Cleveland stands alone in US history as the only president to serve two non-consecutive terms, holding office from 1885 to 1889 and again from 1893 to 1897.

This unique political journey could now be achieved by Donald Trump, who, after his 2017-2021 presidency, is seeking a return to the White House, with Kamala Harris standing in his way.

The victor of today's election will also enjoy the perks and privileges of the office, including the presidential salary.

The salary of the POTUS is established in section 102 of the United States Code (USC), which was approved in 2004. This means it does not change with each administration or governing party; all presidents receive the same compensation.

The USC states that “the President shall receive for his services during the term for which he shall have been elected compensation in the amount of $400,000 annually, paid monthly.” Therefore, Trump or Harris will earn $33,333 per month.

What did the intelligence agencies say?

Influence actors linked to Russia in particular are manufacturing videos and creating fake articles to undermine the legitimacy of the election, instill fear in voters regarding the election process, and suggest Americans are using violence against each other due to political preferences, judging from information available.

Statement on Russia, ODNI, FBI, and CISA

Iran also remains a significant foreign influence threat to US elections. As noted in a prior update, we have assessed that Iran has conducted malicious cyber activities to compromise former president Trump’s campaign. Iranian influence actors may also seek to create fake media content intended to suppress voting or stoke violence, as they have done in past election cycles.

Although it sounds obvious, it’s imperative that voters read their voting instruction manual as it provides all the details on how to cast one’s vote correctly.

When ready to make the voting selection, always use a pen with blue or black ink and complete the oval areas with ink which later facilitates the counting procedure.

Should you for whatever reason, make a mistake, you can be issued with a fresh ballot.
