Musk sends more money to back Trump

Elon Musk gave about $44 million to his pro-Donald Trump spending group during the first half of October, federal disclosures showed on Thursday, as the billionaire stepped up his efforts for the Republican candidate in the Nov. 5 election.

The contributions, disclosed in a filing to the Federal Election Commission by Musk's America PAC group, come after a prior report showed he gave the group around $75 million over three months between July and September.

America PAC, which is focused on turning out voters in closely contested states that could decide the election, also disclosed spending more than $47 million in the first half of October.

The Trump campaign is broadly reliant on outside groups for canvassing voters, meaning the super PAC founded by Musk - the world's richest man - plays an outsized role in what is expected to be a razor-thin election between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Europe seeks to underpin Russia sanctions, fearing Trump overhaul

European diplomats are preparing to underpin sanctions on Russia anticipating that a return of former U.S. president Donald Trump could undermine Western efforts to isolate Moscow.

The talks among EU officials and envoys are centred on several initiatives to ensure that European sanctions would remain in place longer term, bolstering them through tighter enforcement, even if Washington changes tack.

The possible steps include "catch-all" clauses to identify and stop suspect goods shipments destined for Russia and wider oil shipping curbs, the people said.

Controversies surrounding Donald Trump Jr.: From big game hunting to business dealings with Russians

Compared to the last two elections, Donald Trump Jr. has been far less conspicuous on the campaign trail. The Trump family as a whole is no longer an unknown quantity, with myriad legal cases levied against them as well as other reports of strange dealings. It is perhaps no wonder they have been left on the sidelines while Trump Sr. leads the campaign relatively alone.

Let us take a look at his first son’s specific controversies that may have left him out in the cold.

During an interaction with reporters at Los Angeles International Airport, Gibson criticized Vice President Kamala Harris, stating she has "the IQ of a fence post" and a "miserable track record" in leadership.

"I don’t think it’s going to surprise anyone who I vote for" he said.

Will Kamala Harris build a wall if she wins the election? The VP’s most controversial immigration policies

Immigration is one of the main issues that voters are considering when deciding who to vote for in the upcoming presidential elections.

Republican candidate Donald Trump has shared several times that he will implement the largest deportation program in the history of the United States, in addition to securing the border, enforcing immigration laws, implementing a deportation program, strict investigation, stopping sanctuary cities, and prioritizing American workers. Here’s the reason why Donald Trump’s Mexico border wall wasn’t finished and never will be

Following the 2016 elections, Donald Trump became president of the United States, a position he held from 2017 to 2021. During those years, he promoted new measures such as tax reform, the management of international relations and the centerpiece of his platform, the construction of a wall on the border with Mexico.

This last project was one of the most controversial during his presidency, and even after being replaced by President Joe Biden, he continued to insist on the need to finish the wall. VP Harris has softened her position on the wall, which could revive the debate over its efficacy and whether or not it should be built. Read more.

Are Donald Trump or Kamala Harris gun owners? Here's everything we know about the two candidates in the presidential race

The right to bear arms is often a contentious topic of discussion among Americans. While in many parts of the world political debates and campaigns tend to focus on issues such as the economy, foreign policy, security or health, in the United States one key and emotional point for attracting voters is the right to carry weapons.

Here’s how the Social Security COLA could change if Kamala Harris wins the election, according to experts

Kamala Harris has not made Social Security a pillar of her campaign. Instead, the Democratic nominee has focused on abortion rights, immigration, and what she calls the creation of an “opportunity economy.”

This year, the Social Security Administration announced that the COLA (Cost-of-living Adjustment) offered to beneficiaries of the programs it oversees will see their benefits increase by 2.5 percent in 2025. The COLA offered this year was 3.2 percent; in 2023, it reached 8.7 percent. While prices are still increasing, the pace at which they are rising has slowed, leading to a lower COLA for 2025.

What do Kamala Harris and Donald Trump think about marijuana legalization? Here's where they stand in the US Elections

Marijuana legalization has increasing bipartisan support in the United States. While more than a third of states have legalized the drug recreationally or medically, it remains a Schedule I (the highest and most dangerous categorization) drug at the federal level. Other Schedule 1 drugs include meth and heroin.

Most Democratic leaders have been supporters of legalization or, at a minimum, decriminalization, meaning that no one should be behind bars for consumption. Different states have taken different approaches to the question of legalization, with some enacting laws that benefit the communities that were targets of the war on drugs.

These laws are an attempt at correcting past injustices as lawmakers admit that the harsh policing surrounding marijuana that was common practice for decades destroyed the lives of individuals, families, and communities. Read more.

What to do if your name is not on the voter registry: how provisional voting works in US Election 2024

In all US states, voters can check their registration status to ensure they appear on the voter rolls. This is very important in the lead-up to the election, as several states are conducting audits of their voter rolls, which can "strip" voters who don't know until they show up to a polling place and cannot cast a ballot. The GOP says that conducting these audits is necessary to ensure that those ineligible, including non-citizens, cannot cast a ballot. However, voting rights advocates say that these actions often make the issue appear much larger than it is. In a recent audit conducted in Georgia, the Secretary of State found that twenty non-citizens had registered, and 8.2 million registrations were verified. Voters removed from the rolls or who did not register in time still might be able to vote by casting a provisional ballot. Read more.

Donald Trump will be interviewed by Joe Rogan

On Friday, the Joe Rogan Experience podcast will release an interview with Donald Trump, the GOP nominee. Earlier this month, there were rumors that both candidates would sit down with the podcaster, but in less than two weeks until election day, it looks like only Trump will stop by the studio.

On Wednesday, Vice President Harris made comments attacking Donald Trump from her residence in DC over comments made public by his former Chief of Staff in which he praised German fascist leader Adolf Hitler. On X, formally known as Twitter, the account for Rogan's podcast asked followers if Trump should be asked about Harris' statement.

Polymarket and the 2024 US general election, explained

As the US election approaches, online betting markets have piqued the interest of analysts seeking insights into the state of the race. One of these markets is Polymarket, which allows some users to bet on the potential winner of the November election, either Republican Donald Trump or Democrat Kamala Harris. However, the site's legality for US voters is a gray area. While it's illegal for the site to offer bets, it's not illegal for US citizens to place bets. Since the site is operated overseas, the US government has limited power to shut it down or prevent citizens from participating. Read more.

Quinnipiac releases updated Michigan poll numbers

Quinnipiac is one of the most well-known polling organizations in US politics.

On Thursday afternoon, the researchers released updated numbers on the state of the presidential race in Michigan and Wisconsin. The report released earlier this month showed major signs that Vice President Kamala Harris was failing to reach voters. However, these results show that she is leading slightly in Michigan and tied with Donald Trump in Wisconsin

In Michigan, Quinnipiac reported that Harris stood at 49 percent, Trump 46 percent, and the other candidates were polling around 2 percent. With a margin of error of +/—2.9 percent, the race remains too close to call with any real level of uncertainty, but the Harris camp will likely take the improvement well.

In Wisconsin, the two major candidates were tied at 48 percent, with a margin of error of +/- 2.9 percent as well.
