US Elections 2024: latest updates

Activist Greta Thunberg comments on the US election

Activist Greta Thunberg shared a few words on what the US Election means for the world, and she does not mince words. While Donald Trump might be more "dangerous," for Thunberg, the fight for a just world where the climate emergency is not secured under a Kamala Harris administration.

The message is not meant to demoralize people frustrated with their choices but to show that global justice will take a lot more than electoral wins

"But no matter if Trump or Harris wins, the USA - a country built on stolen land and genocide of Indigenous people - will still be an imperialist, hyper-capitalist world power that will ultimately continue to lead the world further into a racist, unequal world with an ever increasingly escalating climate and environmental emergency."

Be careful when in line to vote...

Electioneering, defined by Cambridge University Press as “the activity of trying to persuade people to vote for a particular political party”, is banned in or near polling places throughout the US during elections.

Within a radius that varies from state to state - but is most commonly 150 feet from a polling station - no canvassing will be allowed as voters turn out to cast their ballot in this year’s US presidential contest.

However, this can even stretch to offering food and drink to those who have been in line for hours at a time.

AS USA's William Allen has dived into the details of 'line warming' and how it could affect you in your specific state.

Who is behind the fake video of alleged voter fraud in Georgia?

The United States is once again the target of misinformation campaigns to interfere in its elections, a plague that is affecting nations around the world.

The tactics and methods are becoming ever more sophisticated and easily spread across social media.

Albeit generally they are the product of foreign actors, they are amplified unfortunately by “useful idiots” and even more unfortunately by malevolent actors who think it will help their cause. However, the authorities are ever vigilant to identify false information and fake videos, inform the public about them and if possible have them removed.

The most recent case that has been identified is a fake video of a supposedly Haitian man who says he had voted several times using multiple Georgia IDs.

That wasn’t the only example of fake videos that the Intelligence Community found that Russian influence actors were disseminating as “part of Moscow’s broader effort to raise unfounded questions about the integrity of the US election and stoke divisions among Americans.”

Trump latest update

Donald Trump also landed in Michigan and Wisconsin, where he warned voters that they "gotta get the hell out and vote because it’s now or never. If we don’t do it, it’s never gonna happen again".

He also labelled Harris a "radical left lunatic" and said that voters cannot "take any chances" when it comes to a Republican victory.

The subject of RFK's involvement in a potential Presidential team has been the subject of debate, and it was one that Trump swerved, saying “he knows (health care) better than anybody. He’s got some views that I happen to agree with, very strongly and I have for a long time."

Kamala latest update

The Democrat was in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan yesterday as she spoke about working "with unions to create good paying jobs" as well as "fighting for fairness".

Speaking to the working class people of Wisconsin, Harris said that  "when union workplaces are safer, everyone’s work place is safer. And when unions are strong, America is strong.”

She also tackled the dividing topic of the situation in Gaza, saying that she will "stand up for Israel’s right to defend itself” while emphasising that “she will not be silent about the human suffering occurring in Gaza.”

There was, again, plenty of celeb support for Kamala, with Flo Milli, Glorilla and Cardi B all publicly declaring their allegiance to the VP.
