US ELECTION 2024
Who has more followers on social media: Harris or Trump? The comparison on X, Facebook and Instagram
Republican Donald Trump outperforms Democrat Kamala Harris in this area, despite having been suspended from Meta’s platforms.
The electoral campaign for the United States elections on November 5 is one of the most disputed we have ever witnessed. The rivalry between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris is intense, and social media has not been spared from it.
For several years now, the Internet and social media have been much more than just an entertainment platform. X (formerly Twitter), Instagram and Facebook are information and data collection media, and are a key tool in the electoral process. The massive reach they allow, the real-time analysis, and the mobilization of voters that social media permits could define who will be the next president of the United States.
Trump and Harris on social media
The battle for the presidency on social media is won by Donald Trump, who has more followers than Harris on X, Instagram and Facebook. Trump’s relationship with the latter two, which belong to Meta, has always been complicated, as Trump returned to using Instagram and Facebook in 2024 after being restricted on January 7, 2021 for his statements about the assault on the United States Capitol.
As for the Democratic Party, Harris intends to shut down X, believing that Elon Musk, the platform’s owner, has lost his privileges and should be removed. Elon Musk, who has a close relationship with Trump, has recently been sued for wanting to distribute money to voters.
Who has more followers?
On October 31, with five days to go until voting day, Trump has far outpaced Harris on the three most important social networks.
