Wade Wilson, known as the ‘Deadpool Killer’ for sharing a name with the Marvel antihero, has been sentenced to death for murdering two women almost five years ago.

Wilson was convicted in June of this year for the strangulation murders of Kristine Melton and Diane Ruiz, which occurred in October 2019, and was sentenced on Tuesday, August 27. Melton was 35 years old, while Ruiz, 43, was a mother of two, according to reports from Fox 4.

In June, when he was convicted, a jury recommended a death sentence and Judge Nicholas Thompson agreed. “This case was about killing for the sake of killing,” Assistant State Attorney Andreas Gardiner said in closing arguments at his trial, according to Fox 4. “Strangulation is the epitome of life slipping through someone’s hands,” he added.

According to the outlet, Wilson confessed to the murder, telling detectives: “I’ve done it once, I’ll do it again.” Wilson also called his father to confess to the murders and asked for help, who then informed police where his son was hiding, concerned if he didn’t his son would kill again.

The authorities' message on Wade Wilson's sentencing

Via the Cape Coral Police Department’s Facebook page, Chief Anthony Sizemore said: “As Chief of Police of the Cape Coral Police Department, I represent the men and women who work tirelessly for our community. But when it comes to major events like these horrific crimes and subsequent criminal trials, I also represent the Cape Coral community as a whole.

“I’ll advocate for them on matters of public safety and criminal justice. And with that, first, I am grateful for the jury; for their dedication, attentiveness, and ultimately their verdict in the trial. I am grateful to Judge Thompson, who imposed the appropriate penalty in this case,” he added.

Sizemore also shared a message for the families of the two victims, Kristine Melton and Diane Ruiz: “I pray that today’s outcome can close this chapter so that they can turn the page and begin a long journey that ultimately leads to peace.”
