TreeHouse Foods, maker of frozen waffles for Walmart and Target, has issued a product recall due to possible listeria contamination. Here are the details.
TreeHouse Foods, the leading manufacturer of frozen waffles for Walmart, Target and other major grocery stores, has issued a voluntary recall to alert customers about products possibly contaminated with listeria.
According to official company information, more than 500 varieties of frozen waffles produced by TreeHouse Foods and sold under major stores including Walmart’s Great Value and Target’s Good & Gather have been recalled in the past few days because they may be contaminated with listeria bacteria.
In healthy people, short-term symptoms of listeria infection range from high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. In pregnant women, it can cause miscarriages and stillbirth. Listeria can also cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

The recalled products were sold in the United States and Canada at a variety of grocery stores, including Aldi’s (Breakfast Best brand), Dollar General (Clover Valley brand), Food Lion, Giant Eagle, Hannaford, Harris Teeter, H-E-B, PriceChopper (PICS brand), Publix, Schnucks, Southeastern Grocers, Target (Good & Gather brand), Tops and Walmart (Great Value brand). Foodhold, Kodiak Cakes and Simple Truth brand waffles may also be contaminated.
If you purchased any variety of frozen waffles from the brands or stores listed above, check the official list of affected products from Tree House Food, where you can find out if you have any of them, according to their brand, batch number and expiration date.

At this time, TreeHouse Foods has not been notified of any cases of illness linked to its products. However, consumers are urged to check their freezers for any packaging from the recalled waffles and to throw them away or return them to the place of purchase for another product or a refund.
