Walmart to distribute checks worth up to $500 to eligible customers: Who is able to make a claim?
Customers who may have overpaid for meat, poultry, and fresh fruits at Walmart could be eligible for compensation. How much will they receive and when?
Walmart has been mandated by the courts to compensate customers who allegedly overpaid for certain food goods. The products vary from meat and poultry to fruits (i.e., oranges, grapefruits, tangerines, and more), and the suit alleged that customers “paid more than the lowest in-store advertised price for those products.”
Who is eligible?
Anyone who purchased between 19 October 2018 and 19 January 2024 can file a claim. No documentation will be required to file a claim, and the Claim Form can be submitted online. For those looking to submit their claim in person, the forms can be downloaded and mailed to the Claims Administrator at 1650 Arch Street, Suite 2210, Philadelphia, PA 19103. All claims must be submitted by 5 June 2024.
How much will be reimbursed?
Walmart will repay customers depending on the documentation they can provide (if any). Up to $25.00 can be distributed to those who do not have a receipt, whereas up to $500 can be distributed to those who can provide receipts. The hearing to finalize the settlements will take place on 12 June 2024, and the payments can be expected after that hearing takes place. According to the website dedicated to the settlement, the hearing is met to evaluate “whether the Settlement is fair, reasonable, and adequate.” If no appeals process follows the hearing, Walmart will distribute the payments promptly.
