Walmart recalls 850,000 water bottles for causing injury and vision loss in consumers
The retail giant is offering a full refund for the bottles. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warns of impact and laceration hazards.
Walmart is recalling 850,000 64-ounce Ozark Trail stainless steel insulated water bottles due to a risk of injury.
Three customers reported that the lids of the bottles “forcefully ejected,” striking them in the face. Two of the customers suffered permanent vision loss.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warned that the bottles pose serious impact and laceration hazards.
The bottles were sold with model number 83-662 on the product packaging, the model number does not appear on the bottle itself.
Why do the lids of the Ozark Trail bottles eject forcefully?
According to the Commission, the lid can eject forcefully when “food, carbonated beverages, or perishable beverages such as juice or milk are stored inside over time,” and the consumer attempts to open the bottle.
