Before the pandemic, there always seemed to be a Walmart open...

Until lockdowns kept shoppers at home, Walmart had locations that operated 24/7. However, with the arrival of COVID-19, the company chose to change this practice.

Since the health emergency ended, thousands of customers have been waiting for Walmart to operate again under their previous schedule... but as the company responds to shifts in consumer demand, the 24/7 schedule is unlikely to make a comeback. On the contrary, Walmart has announced that they will limit hours further at select locations across the country.

Which stores will close early?

So far, the only locations affected will be five stores in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Below are the exact locations:

  • Union City: 4735 Jonesboro Road
  • Lithonia: 5401 Fairington Road
  • College Park: 6149 Old National Highway
  • Atlanta: 1105, Research Center Atlanta Drive SW
  • East Point: 844 Cleveland Avenue

The new closing time will be 9:00 p.m. Previously, the aforementioned stores closed at 11:00 p.m. The store will still open its doors to customers at 6:00 a.m.

Why is Walmart closing earlier?

According to a statement issued by a company spokesperson, the decision to close early comes as part of feedback from customers and other market leaders:

We’re continually exploring ways to better serve our communities. After considering feedback from market leadership, associates and customers, we’ve decided to adjust operating hours,” noted the company. The changes went into effect on 16 September.
