Walmart’s classic Easter meal kit for less than $50 is missing one key ingredient in 2025

The price of one cupboard staple has tripled in the space of just one year. Unsurprisingly, it has been omitted from Walmart’s Easter hamper.

Update:

With Easter just weeks away, Walmart have launched their classic Easter meal kit as part of its seasonal campaign, promoting a range of offers and discounts to help customers celebrate the holiday period.

Walmart’s Easter meal kit consists of a hamper with enough food to feed eight people, and hopefully something for everyone. This year, it costs $42.98 and contains contains nine items, including smoked ham, Mac and Cheese, a cream cake along with fruit and vegetables.

Feeding a family of eight works out at just under $6 per person, making it great value for money.

What items are in Walmart’s 2025 Easter meal kit?

  • 3 lb pack of boneless spiral-cut brown sugar double glazed Hickory-smoked Ham
  • 2 boxes Kraft Cheese Macaroni dinner
  • 32 oz pack fresh green beans
  • Sweet corn on the cob 4 pack tray
  • Bunch of fresh, green asparagus
  • 5 lb bag of whole russet potatoes
  • Fresh naval oranges
  • 12 oz bag of brown and white dinner rolls (pack of 12)
  • 27 oz Marketside Variety cremme cake (Vanilla, Meyer Lemon, Sock It to Me and Chocolate Fudge)

No eggs this Easter

However, you find one cupboard staple which has almost doubled in price over the past year, and ironically, is closely associated with Easter - eggs. A carton of 18 large cage-free eggs was part of last year’s kit, which had more items (10) but was also more expensive, coming in at just under $80.

Tricia Moriarty, Walmart’s Global Director of Communications explained to Reuters: “The items in the basket are based on some of the most popular Easter meal items. This year we did not include ingredients that are typically already found in one’s pantry like salt, pepper, butter, milk and eggs”.

How much has the price of eggs risen at Walmart in one year?

Hardly surprising given how recent ‘eggflation’ has seen the price of a dozen eggs shoot up. The cheapest 18-count box of eggs currently available at Walmart costs $10.52, with prices for similar products hovering just under $12.

Compare that to the price just 12 months ago when an 18-count carton of Marketside cage-free large brown eggs cost just $3.92 - a third of what it costs today, despite reports that prices are falling.
