The cast is chuck-full of stars including Taylor Swift who made an appearance in a 30-second teaser trailer released on Saturday. Going by the teaser, the award-winning singer-songwriter will make a swift exit from the movie giving just a couple of lines.

“Is somebody watching me?” Swift says, playing the part of Liz Meekins, when she approaches Burt Berendsen (Christian Bale) and Harold Woodman (John David Washington) to ask for help investigating the suspicious death of her father. “I don’t know if I can talk about this.”

Apparently so and apparently not, to answer both questions. She’s promptly pushed in front of an on-coming car which will be blamed on the eccentric doctor Berendsen and his close friend and lawyer Woodman.

In order to clear their names they’ll have to solve the mystery of how Meekins’ father General Bill Meekins, played by Ed Begley Jr, died. Both men served under his command in the First World War and have great respect for him. Their investigation will reunited them with an old-time friend from the war Valerie Voze (Margot Robbie).

Beside the above mentioned actors, the star-studded cast includes Robert De Niro, Alessandro Nivola, Rami Malek, Mike Myers, Timothy Olyphant, Andrea Riseborough, Chris Rock, Zoe Saldaña, Matthias Schoenaerts, Michael Shannon and Anya Taylor-Joy.

What is the true story that ‘Amsterdam is based on?

The film is set around a plot to overthrow the government of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the Business Plot of 1933. Also known as the Wall Street Putsch and The White House Putsch, a group of wealthy businessmen conspired to use a veteran-led group to carry out a fascist coup along the lines of Mussolini and Hitler and install retired General Smedley Butler as a dictator.

The retired general, who despite being a self-described Republican, had become a vocal opponent of capitalism and bankers calling himself a “racketeer for Capitalism” and a “high-class muscle man” for Wall Street.

Butler gave testimony before Congress about the plot in 1934. The congressional committee stated in its final report that “there is no question that these attempts were discussed, were planned, and might have been placed in execution.” However, none involved were ever prosecuted.
