Prices for fuel have reached their peak for the year so far, reaching $5.01 a gallon as a US average on June 14. There has been a slight decrease over the last three weeks with the average cost of a gallon sitting at the $4.80 mark.

While prices continue to edge down in nearly every state, reductions in prices for many are so minimal that they won’t be felt in these relatively expensive times. Fuel in Europe is currently much more expensive compared to the US, for example.

As evidenced by this tweet, the US government has been reduced to begging oil companies to cut their profits and help Americans out. Though prices have been trickling down for the last two weeks, 2022 is the year with the highest July fourth fuel prices in all of time. The prior price record was set in 2088 at $4.10 per gallon.

The AAA Gas Prices website updates the price of fuel every day, showing the overnight price changes at the national and state level. Every day up to 120,000 stations are surveyed in cooperation with WEX Inc for unmatched statistical reliability.
