What are some great Christmas movies to watch with kids? Elf, Home Alone, The Muppet Christmas Carol

There are many options for films to settle down and watch over the holiday season though you may need multiple subscriptions to access them.

Christmas time is the perfect holiday to gather around the television and watch a film with yout family. here is our pick of the best kids films full of that holiday spirit.

Elf

One family favorite is ‘Elf,’ starring Will Ferrell as Buddy, who learns he is not, in fact, an Elf but instead a human whose family lives in New York City.

Buddy visits the Big Apple to reconnect with his father and keeps audiences laughing as one of Santa’s helpers adjusts to the real world. The 2003 classic has earned an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is considered a must-watch holiday movie by many.

Elf is available to stream on HBO Max.

Home Alone

The original Home Alone was created in 1990, and as you can infer from the title, it’s about a boy that was left home alone. However, it wasn’t just any ordinary day that he was left alone- it was during the holidays. Kevin, 8-years-old, gets into a ton of mischief while being left home alone. After a couple of days he is faced by two burglars that break into his home.

Home Alone is accessible on Disney+.

The Muppet Christmas Carol

Based on, no surprises here, Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, Brian Henson follows the original text closely with the twist of the added Muppets characters. Michael Caine plays the role of Ebeneezer Scrooge.

It was the first Muppets film to be produced by Disney and the rights to the characters were acquired by the company in 2004.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

In this children’s tale, the scary green creature known as the Grinch tries to ruin Christmas by stealing all of the presents. The Grinch is also not very fond of the Whos of Whoville. Six-year-old Cindy Lou sees this Grinch and comes to learn that he has a troubled past. The young Who has a big influence on the Grinch, who eventually realizes the true meaning of Christmas.

Klaus

For all you animation-lovers, Klaus (2019) is a can’t-miss holiday movie. When Jesper is deemed the worst postman in the academy, he ends up befriending a toymaker named Klaus. How does he meet Klaus you might ask? Because Jesper was the worst in his class, he gets sent to a frozen island just above the Arctic Circle.

Klaus is available on Netflix.

A Christmas Story

A Christmas Story is about a young boy named Ralphie Parker in early 1940s Cleveland who just wants one thing: a Red Ryder Carbine Action Air Rifle. This heartwarming movie is a Christmas classic, and really brings all the holiday feels.

It’s available on HBO Max and Hulu.
