Valentine’s Day is just around the corner once again and you may be thinking that the bouquet of flowers, candle-lit dinner followed by romantic cuddling in front of a fire may be getting old. But what alternatives are there?

Quite a few as it turns out. Some of which will set you back a paycheck or two but others can be done at practically no cost. Here’s a look at how to celebrate the Saint of Love’s day with a new twist or in a positively novel way.

Do an activity together for Valentine’s Day

Now that life is back to normal, there are many activities that a couple, group of couples or even singles can do together that could put a new spin on how you celebrate Valentine’s Day. For those that enjoy a hardy laugh you could take in a comedy show or go to an improve theater. If music is more your style, why not take in a concert or test your vocal cords singing karaoke.

The more adventurous among you might want to go rock climbing or get an even bigger adrenaline rush sky diving. But if you want something more relaxed you could take in a game of mini-golf or dig through the racks at the thrift store in preparation for Carnival.

Attend a class or workshop together for Valentine’s Day

This Valentine’s Day you could add some spice to your relationship while doing the same to some food learning to cook a new cuisine. Take the day as an opportunity to learn some new moves with a dance class which will come in handy at the next social gathering. You could consider taking some lessons together on how to give a proper massage, not only will you come out feeling great but will come in useful for that next date night, or any time for that matter.

Take a trip for Valentine’s Day

For those that need a breath of fresh air, a romantic getaway might be just what the doctor ordered. You could get lodging someplace quaint or head off into the woods to go camping. Either way, if you are out of the city, it will give up the opportunity to spend some romantic time staring up into the night sky at the stars.

But if you don’t have the privilege of time to get out of town, you could do some exploring around town. Find someplace that you’ve never been in your city and take a tour, say at the museum, botanical garden or local brewery, winery or distillery.

Play games for Valentine’s Day

Staying in is more of your pace this year? Playing games may be a great way to spend Valentine’s Day. It could be a game or games for two, or get together with a group of other couples, invite some singles for that matter, to play games like Trivial Pursuit.

But you don’t have to stay at home to play games, perhaps there is an establishment in your city dedicated to games where you can get together. For a blast from the past, you could even visit an arcade to play video games or a bit of skee-ball.
