It has been a tumultuous couple of years since covid-19 upended everything. The disruptions to everyday life and the way we work gave pause to many workers to reevaluate their jobs. This led to the “Great Resignation” which saw millions of employees seek out greener pastures resulting in a labor crunch.

In turn employers were forced to sweeten what they offer employees with better salaries and working conditions to attract talent. This is something that was pointed out in the 2023 “Best Places to Work” report released by Glassdoor, a website that allows current and former employees to anonymously review companies to help those seeking to make career decisions.

On the 2023 list of the top 100 companies, many made the final cut “in part due to flexible work environments, improved benefits packages, and a focus on work-life balance.” Despite what CEO Christian Sutherland-Wong described as a year of “extreme highs and lows for job seekers and employees” Glassdoor’s data from the past year showed that “there are still companies hyper-focused on creating outstanding employee experiences.”

“It’s encouraging to see companies doubling down on employee mental health and wellbeing, diversity and inclusion, competitive benefits and flexible work environments as we head into 2023,” he added.

Employees’ choice of best places to work in 2023

Glassdoor separates employers into two categories, the 100 Best Places to Work and the 50 Best Small & Medium Companies to Work For. Those with more than 1,000 workers and those with less than that amount respectively. The 15th annual Employees’ Choice Awards honors companies across the US and four other countries (Canada, UK, France and Germany).

Companies are ranked on a 5-point scale with a score of 1 meaning very dissatisfied, 3 OK and 5 very satisfied.
