Netflix came to revolutionize the entertainment industry. The company, based in Scotts Valley, California emerged in 2007 as a DVD rental service via mail. In 2010, the founders decided to shift the company’s focus to streaming, a concept that was well received in the United States. Two years later, the company was already making its own productions.

Since then, Netflix has produced more than 1,900 original series and movies, while the streaming industry has exploded, especially in the last five years, with the creation of new platforms for consumers to binge watch content, such as Amazon Prime Video, MAX, Apple TV+, Hulu or Disney+. Due to the wide variety on offer, it is increasingly difficult to decide on a platform, since choosing the best plan depends on various factors, ranging from the catalog and original content, down to the price.

According to Forbes, there are currently more than 200 streaming services in the world. However, less than three dozen have a minimum of 50 million subscribers. Since its creation, Netflix has established itself as the streaming platform with the most penetration in households worldwide, garnering more than 247 million subscribers currently. But what about its prices? Is it the cheapest option?

The answer is simple: No. Although Netflix is the most popular platform in the United States, it may not be the best option for your pocket. The cost rises to $11.99 per month when advertising is removed from the platform.

MAX offers ad-supported plans starting at $9.99 per month and Premium subscriptions at $15.99. Similarly, Apple TV+ offers plans starting at $9.99.
