The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has released a draft of its party platform, outlining a progressive agenda focused on economic growth, social justice, and climate action.

The economy

The party plans to invest in infrastructure and manufacturing, with over 57,000 projects underway across the country. Key proposals include raising the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour and passing the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act to enhance workers’ rights to organize and negotiate better pay and benefits

No American earning less than $400,000 a year will pay more in federal taxes. Billionaires will be subject to a minimum income tax, while the corporate tax rate will also be increased.

Taxes will be lowered for families by restoring and making permanent the Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit.

Immigration

The platform also addresses immigration reform, aiming to secure the US borders while providing pathways to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. Not much detail was given for either plan

The climate

The party plans to scale up solar, wind, and geothermal projects.

Social Issues

Democrats are committed to restoring Roe v. Wade as the law of the land, protecting reproductive rights, and enacting measures to prevent gun violence.

$37 billion will be invested to support law enforcement and crime prevention. Democrats will also take action to expunge federal marijuana-only convictions.

The list of drugs Medicare can negotiate for will also be increased to 50.
