What are the Republican party policies for America ahead of the 2024 presidential election?

Much of the Republican wave of support against Biden had come from Trump’s charisma, but an investigation of their policies shows who they fight for.

The Republican Party’s platform for the 2024 presidential election, reflects a strong influence from former President Donald Trump. This platform emphasizes an “America First” approach, focusing on economic revival, national security, and social issues, while skirting around the more unpalatable ideas that turned voters away in 2022.

The economy

The party aims to address the trade deficit by supporting baseline tariffs on foreign-made goods and passing the Trump Reciprocal Trade Act. This approach seeks to protect American workers and industries from unfair foreign competition.

Republicans plan to use this to then bring critical supply chains back to the US and bolster domestic production. This includes reviving the American auto industry by reversing regulations and preventing the importation of foreign vehicles, particularly from China.

Tax cuts for the richest would also be on the table,

Immigration

Republicans propose restoring every Border Policy of the Trump administration. This would include completing the border wall and shifting federal law enforcement resources to immigration enforcement. The platform includes plans for a significant deportation program aimed at undocumented immigrants.

This would aim to “keep foreign Christian-hating Communists, Marxists, and Socialists out of America.”

The climate

The party plans to lift restrictions on American Energy Production and end Green New Deal. This would mean vastly expanding the US’s oil and gas plants.

Social issues

A notable shift in the platform is the decision to leave the regulation of abortion to individual states, moving away from a national ban.

Republicans aim to combat what they describe as “left-wing propaganda” in schools. The platform includes provisions to ban taxpayer funding for gender transition surgeries and restrict participation of transgender women in women’s sports.

What is Project 2025?

Project 2025, formally known as the 2025 Presidential Transition Project, is an initiative led by the Heritage Foundation aimed at preparing for a potential second term for Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

The project advocates for a significant expansion of presidential authority, asserting that the executive branch should be under direct presidential control. This includes reclassifying many federal civil service positions as political appointees to replace them with loyalists who support Trump’s policies.

It also proposes radical changes to economic policy, including the abolition of the Federal Reserve, a shift to a consumption tax, and significant tax cuts for corporations and high-income earners.

While these ideas are not mentioned in the paty’s policies, Democrats have warned that a Trump presidency could result in the Project’s implementation. Despite Trump’s recent attempts to distance himself from the project, many of his former aides and allies remain deeply involved in its development.
