Powerball fans across the United States tuned in on Monday night, September 1, for the latest drawing. The winning numbers were revealed, but with no jackpot winner yet again, the prize has climbed to $1.1 billion, with the option of taking $498.4 million in cash – the fifth-largest amount in the game’s history.

A ticket costs $2, a small stake that could multiply into hundreds, thousands or even millions of dollars with the right numbers. Powerball is officially available in nearly every US state, with the exception of Alabama, Nevada, Utah, Hawaii and Alaska.

Drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET from the lottery’s studio in Tallahassee, Florida.

With a ticket in hand, players pick five numbers between 1 and 69 for the white balls, and one number between 1 and 26 for the red ball – known as the Powerball. If all the numbers match, the player wins the jackpot.

Winners can choose between two payout methods: a lump sum of $498.4 million, or the full jackpot of $1.1 billion paid in 30 annual installments. Those yearly payments increase by 5% to help offset inflation and preserve the prize’s value.
