Tuesday’s $830 million Mega Million jackpot winning numbers have been drawn.

The numbers were 7, 29, 60, 63, and 66 with a Megaball of 15.

What one billion dollars really means

The $830 million prize is for a winner who takes an annuity option, paid out in 30 annual payments. Most players choose the cash option, which for Tuesday’s drawing would be $487.9 million, of which about one-third would go toward federal taxes with possibly more for state taxes, depending on the buyer’s residence.

The $830 million jackpot would be the fourth-largest lottery prize ever won in the United States if a winner is found in the upcoming draw. We take a look at the biggest jackpots in US history…

The odds are stacked against you

The odds of winning all that money have remained the same — one in 302.5 million!

The cash equivalent of this week’s $830 million jackpot is a $487.9 million lump sum payment. This would immediately be subject to a 24% federal tax withholding.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states as well as Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The game is overseen by state lottery officials.

There are a total of nine ways to win a prize in Mega Millions, ranging from recovering your initial $2 buy-in to the jackpot. Players can increase their prize amounts by spending an extra $1 for the Megaplier option to win two, three, four or even five times as much. However the Megaplier only applies to non-jackpot prizes as explained in this article.

Immediately after announcing the winning numbers the Mega Millions site crashed due to excess traffic.
