Optimus is Tesla’s new intelligent robot, a personal assistant that Elon Musk says is comparable to the most popular robots in the world, R2-D2 and C-3PO.
Tesla, the automotive and technology company of Elon Musk, has presented the firm’s newest creation, an android called Optimus. The billionaire boasts it is superior to two of the most popular robots on the planet.
“Optimus is your personal R2-D2/C3PO assistant, but better. It will transform physical work in industrial environments,” the company posted on its X account, where it also shared a video of the robot’s capabilities.
Musk says he has used the same technology as the one used in automatic cars (artificial intelligence, software, etc.), but instead of placing wheels, they have given the androids legs, arms and joints.

As can be seen in the clip, the new Optimus walks like humans, and is said to be capable of scrubbing, collecting mail, watering plants, serving food, and playing with children, among other functions.
“You’re going to have something spectacular, something that anyone can own,” Musk said. “You can have your own R2-D2/C3PO.”

Tesla’s CEO predicts the technology will eventually cost “less than a car,” (about $20,000 to $30,000 in total) although he’s talking about the long term. According to the magnate, the robot will be able to do many things, including teaching kids, walking the dog, doing the shopping, and even being your friend.
For now, there are promises of a utopian world of abundance (or dystopian, depending on how you look at it) in which humans will acquire two or three of these intelligent androids.
Tesla has not yet announced a launch date, although the presentation of the robot seems to indicate it is a long-term project. It will also be necessary to analyze all the risks involved in having a robot with artificial intelligence carry out educational and emotional tasks for its owners.
