Summer vacations are coming up and people will be looking for the best price. Here are the most expensive and cheapest days of the week to book vacations.

The price of many products and services changes frequently due to many factors. Even the day of the week can cause price changes. That is why certain days are better than others to make purchases, including flights or booking hotels for vacations.

What days of the week are more expensive to book vacations?

Google Flights examined five years of airfare data to find patterns about the cheapest days to fly and the best time to book your flights during each season. We share with you the cheapest days and times of the year to buy plane tickets, according to the study shared by Google in August 2022.

According to Google, fares are cheaper in the middle of the week, instead of on weekends, when it is more expensive. In the last five years, flights that took off from Monday to Wednesday were, on average, between 12% and 20% cheaper than weekend flights.

Google also noted that Wednesdays may offer the most affordable flights, although Sunday through Tuesday are great for budget travel. Meanwhile, when it comes to booking a hotel, it’s best to do it early in the week. Hotels have less vacancies at the end of the week, so you’ll get the best rates when you book early in the week.

How far in advance should a flight be booked?

For US domestic flights, Google notes that prices are typically lowest between 21 and 60 days before departure. It is advisable to plan and book in advance, as booking a trip close to the departure date is much more expensive. We share with you the best times to book flights.

  • Thanksgiving or Christmas: The lowest prices are generally found between 36 and 74 days before departure.
  • For domestic travel around Christmas, the lowest average prices have been 22 days before departure. Prices have tended to drop between 20 and 88 days before departure.
  • Spring Break: For domestic travel beginning in March or April, prices are typically lowest between 23 and 59 days before departure.
  • Summer Holidays: For domestic travel beginning in July or August, prices have been lowest 14 to 44 days prior to departure.
  • Flights from the United States to Europe: The best deals are generally found 129 days before departure, and prices tend to be lowest between 50 and 179 days before departure.
  • Flights from the United States to Mexico or the Caribbean. Average airfares have been lowest between 37 and 87 days before departure.
