What did Donald Trump say about Joe Biden’s resignation from the 2024 presidential race?

President Joe Biden has dropped out of the race for the White House against Republican candidate, former president Donald Trump. Though Biden did not state one specific reason for his resignation, many had been calling on him to step down following a disastrous debate against Trump in June. Biden posted his decision to X on Sunday.

“While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump was quick to post his reaction on Truth Social:

“Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve - And never was! He only attained the position of President by lies, Fake News, and not leaving his Basement. All those around him, including his Doctor and the Media, knew that he wasn’t capable of being President, and he wasn’t - And now, look what he’s done to our Country, with millions of people coming across our Border, totally unchecked and unvetted, many from prisons, mental institutions, and record numbers of terrorists. We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

In an interview with Sky News, Trump called Biden “the worst president in the history of the United States by far”.

“There has never been a president who has done such damage to our country. From energy independence to letting in millions and millions of illegal immigrants. We will fix what he has done.”

NBC asked Trump if he was surprised by Biden’s announcement and his response was this: “He should never have been there in the first place. He should have stayed in his basement.”
