What did newly released court documents reveal about Depp and Heard?

New documents surrounding pretrial evidence from the defamation suit between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have become public. What’s new?

Update:
The latest news today on the fallout from the Depp v Heard defamation trial, after Amber Heard’s lawyers last week filed a motion to set aside the verdict.

New court documents related to the defamation case brought by actor Johnny Depp against his ex-wife Amber Heard reveal new details about their relationship that were not admited as evidence during the trial.

Some of the details are disturbing, and it is not difficult to see why Depp wanted many documents, texts, and photos barred from entering as evidence in the case.

One of the most interesting pieces of the transcript speaks to a legal declaration made by Depp that he did not suffer any physical or psychological harm by Heard. Either Depp perjured himself when making that declaration or on the stand during his testimony this past spring.

Depp, Drugs, and Alcohol

Another main focus of the documents sheds light on Depp’s issues with drugs and alcohol. “What the hell was wrong with your client?” said Disney executives to Tracy Jacobs, Depp’s agent, after the actor appeared on a television program visibility intoxicated.

Depp showed similar behavior during the filming of Parties Five, to which Disney executives said left “no love between Johnny and Disney, given the […] situation.”

Depp’s relationship with Marilyn Manson

Another prominent finding within the documents are conversations between longtime friends Marilyn Manson and Johnny Depp. Marilyn Manson was accused of abuse by over a dozen women last year for violations that occurred over the previous three decades. He was dropped from his record label and manager and has been the subject of multiple civil suits.

These allegations are all seperate from those Manson texted Depp about, which relate to his twife Lindsay Usich.

In the documents, Manson says his wife “is pulling [an] amber and the cops are gonna show up to serve me a restraining order.”

“I got a serious police amber type scenario with L’s family. I’m fuckin stressing. I don’t know if you are back, but I need asylum somewhere because I think the cops might be headed my way,” wrote Manson over text to Depp.

Manipulated phone records

It has also become apparent through the documents that the calls submitted to the record were mandated and edited to make Depp sound better. The messages include a more in-depth conversation between the pair after Heard allegedly Hit Depp. The jury heard this admission during the trial, but the call had been edited, and the part where Heard said that she did it because last time she didn’t, she ended up “hurt more.”

The Daily Beast, the outlet that broke the story, also highlighted that many of the audios turned over as evidence had been manipulated. Yet, the expert who detected said abnormalities was barred from testifying to them during the trial. Julian Ackert, a digital forensic expert with iDiscovery Solutions, noted that many of the “anomalies” with time stamps on photos and other materials “can be a sign of digital evidence manipulation.”
