Update:

MTG has done a 180 degree turnaround in the last few months. Once, one of the loudest MAGA supporters, now it seems like the congresswoman want to leave office with a different image. We’re not sure what her future plans are, but after annoying Democrats for years, she has now managed to anger the MAGA crowd.

Today, Jan. 5, 2026 is her last day in office. She announced her resignation on Nov. 21, 2025 after falling out with President Trump on the Epstein files and chose the day before the fifth anniversary of the attack on the U.S. Capitol as her last day.

What did MTG say about the Jan. 6 riots?

When speaking at a Young Republicans conference in 2022, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene made jokes about her involvement in the Jan. 6 insurrection.

“If Steve Banon and I had organized that [Jan. 6], we would have won,” said the representative from Georgia, adding that “it would have been armed.”

These comments are just a set of many made by the Congresswoman about Jan. 6, which occurred after she said there should be no peaceful transfer of power to President Biden.

While the Congresswoman has since said the comments were made in jest, many have criticized her for making light of that attack that ended the lives of several people and left dozens wounded.

Additionally, these “jokes” differ grateful from the MTG’s feelings during the attack, when she sent a text to White House Chief of Staff Mark Meddows that read, “Mark, I have just been told there is an active shooter on the first floor,” and directed him to “tell the president to calm people,” because “this,” being the insurrection, “was not the way to solve anything.”

Con. Taylor Greene refused to apologize

The Congresswoman’s comments made clear that she wanted to play down the attack’s significance and create space between the insurrection and the far-right movement whose candidates lost handily in the midterms.

In the statement, she also accuses Democrats of not understanding sarcasm, another attempt to cast her remarks as a joke.

Three years later she is trying to remove herself from the MAGA realm and distance herself from Trump and the sinking ship of the Republican Party, but not many have forgotten her role in the post-Jan. 6 turmoil and even fewer have forgiven her.

MTG is now leaving the political arena. Nobody quite understands why she decided to shun Trump and his MAGA supporters, but only time will tell if Marjorie Taylor Greene will return to politics in the future.
