The Supreme Court ruling on Trump’s immunity from prosecution for election interference gave the former President a partial victory, he called a “Big win.”
The Supreme Court waited until the last day of this year’s term to release its decision on former President Donald Trump’s immunity from prosecution for his actions to interfere with the results of the 2020 election. The justices voted 6-3 to reject Trump’s broad claim of immunity along ideological lines.
However, the opinion does say that he cannot be prosecuted for some actions closely related to his core duties as president. This will further delay special counsel Jack Smith’s case against Trump whose trial was supposed to begin in March. The case will now go back to the lower courts who the justices have tasked with figuring out precisely how their decision should be applied.

In his signature style, Trump posted in all caps on his social media platform Truth Social shortly after the Supreme Court ruling: “BIG WIN FOR OUR CONSTITUTION AND DEMOCRACY. PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!”
The Biden campaign as well was quick to respond to the high court’s decision saying, “today’s ruling doesn’t change the facts.”
“Donald Trump snapped after he lost the 2020 election and encouraged a mob to overthrow the results of a free and fair election,” the campaign said in a statement. “He sat idly by while the mob violently attacked the Capitol: he thinks he’s above the law and is willing to do anything to gain and hold onto power for himself.”
