What does ‘demure’ mean on TikTok? The new trend explained

The word ‘demure’ has been around for, give or take, seven hundred years, but has changed little over that time according to Merriam-Webster. It’s currently defined as a person being “affectedly modest, reserved or serious: coy” in order to not “draw attention to themselves, whether because of a shy nature or determined self-control.”

In Lebron’s first post she says, “See how I come to work, very demure. I do my makeup. I lay my wig. I do a little braid. I flat iron my hair. I do Chi-Chi bout. I do viral vanilla. Very demure, very mindful. Lets not forget to be demure divas.

In later videos she explains that it is about finding balance “without doing too much or doing too little.” According to Lebron it’s about being mindful when you go to work “It’s not a fashion show, but it’s not a soup kitchen,” she says.

The TikTok sensation has spread across social media sparking memes from other users including celebrities like Meghan Trainor imitating Lebron’s advice on how she comes to work. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan also posted a short video on TikTok about being ‘demure’ and ‘mindful’.
