Update:

The fallout from Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago raid in August is still being felt. Prosecutors obtained a search warrant to search the property and found a swathe of documents that they believe should have been kept classified and acted with the belief that there was to be an effort to conceal them.

Trump, of course, has been adamant that he did not wrongdoing. Furthermore, he has stressed his belief that if he were to be indicted on criminal charges for possession of the documents then there would be public uproar. This idea has also been stressed by other members of the Republican party such as Lindsey Graham who said there would be “riots in the streets” were Trump to be prosecuted.

The former president elucidated these thoughts in an interview with talk radio host Hugh Hewitt.

What did Trump say in the interview?

“If a thing like that happened, I would have no prohibition against running,” Trump said, “I think if it happened, I think you’d have problems in this country the likes of which perhaps we’ve never seen before. I don’t think the people of the United States would stand for it.”

Hewitt asked Trump what he meant by “problems.”

“I think they’d have big problems. Big problems. I just don’t think they’d stand for it. They will not sit still and stand for this ultimate of hoaxes,” Trump said.

“That’s not inciting. I’m just saying what my opinion is,” Trump said of accusations against him of inciting violence. “I don’t think the people of this country would stand for it.”

Considering there was a civil war in the 1860s then “problems like never seen” would seem to trump that, no pun intended.
