The proceedings of the case have been declared confidential by the Arona Courts on Tenerife overseeing the ongoing investigation so details are still limited. The individuals taken into custody still need to be interrogated and the two arrested in Belgium, extradited to Tenerife.
The remains of Laura Gastón were found by a fishing boat floating in the waters off the east coast near Arico on the other side of the southern end of Tenerife on 27 April. An autopsy confirmed that her death was the result of foul play. Her head was covered in a plastic bag and her body had been dismembered, she was missing a hand and both legs. The advanced state of decomposition of her body suggested that she had died several days earlier.
While Marc Francis has not been found yet, Belgian media report that a car was allegedly found in the ocean near where Laura’s body was discovered with a body inside. However, this has not yet been confirmed and the investigation is still ongoing as to his whereabouts.
