What is InfoWars media conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ net worth?

Alex Jones filed for bankruptcy after he was ordered to pay over $1 billion in defamation damages, yet he has kept up a lavish lifestyle nonetheless.

‘Bankrupt’ Alex Jones doesn’t seem to be short on cash

The alt-right agitator Alex Jones, who claims to be bankrupt, will not be able to avoid handing over a hefty sum of money to the families of the victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook mass shooting that he willfully and maliciously injured. A decision by US bankruptcy judge in Houston, Texas ruled that despite his petition for Chapter 11 protections, he will still be on the hook for over $1.1 billion in defamation damages awarded by courts in Connecticut and the Lone Star State.

He has appealed those verdicts and they are currently working their way through each state’s courts but in the meantime, despite his claimed destitution he hasn’t been scrimping on his cash expenditures. According to reporting in the Washington Post, the Infowars founder spent over $93,000 July alone this year, nearly $3,400 in groceries alone. Additional expenses reported include “$7,900 on housekeeping, $6,338 on meals and entertainment,” according to documents obtained by the media outlet from lawyers of the families suing him.

What is InfoWars media conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ net worth?

The conspiracy theorist spends “nearly a quarter” of his on-air time flogging questionable products that are supposed solutions to conspiracy theories that he spreads during his broadcasts according to a 2017 episode of Last Week Tonight presented by John Oliver. Sales of those products have brought Jones vast sums of money, $165 million between September 2015 through 2018 according to court filings in the Sandy Hook lawsuits against him.

According to more recent court filings in his personal Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, he has a net worth of roughly $14 million. Those same disclosures say that he has paid of $1.3 million in debts, roughly half of that went to his ex-wife Erika Wulff Jones, who he married in 2017, listed as part of a “premarital agreement.” Lawyers for the Sandy Hook families allege that these are in reality “fraudulent transfers.”

The remainder went to people who are classified as “insiders,” which includes any relatives or business partners.

However, he is still gainfully employed though and his media company, Free Speech Systems, which also filed for bankruptcy due to defamation lawsuits by Sandy Hook families, is looking to nearly triple his salary. If approved by the courts, his current salary of $520,000 per year will balloon to $1.5 million annually.

How much could Alex Jones’s wealth be?

One the final day of the Austin trial in August 2022 a financial expert, named Bernard Pettingill, testified on behalf of the parents of Jesse Lewis in a bid to ascertain Alex Jones’ true worth. He estimated that Jones’ personal worth was between $70 million and $140 million.

This is a result of Jones and his companies making more than $50 million a year between 2016 and 2021 due to his immense following. Loans were taken out in an attempt to hide his true wealth.

“We can’t put a finger on what he does for a living,” Pettingill said of Jones’s ability to capitalize on unhinged, baseless conspiracy theories. “He didn’t ride a wave – he created a wave.”

However, in the Connecticut trial a financial expert testified that Jones and his company are worth around $270 million, a figure Jones has disputed.

In the July bankruptcy filing, Jones’ team claimed that Free Speech Systems had made $13.1 million in gross profit in 2021, and had made $9.3 million during the first five months of 2022. However documents submitted as part of the filing also claimed that, as of 31 May 2022, the company had $14.3 million in total liabilities and equity.

“Just two days before jury selection is due to begin in Connecticut, Mr. Jones has once again fled like a coward to bankruptcy court in a transparent attempt to delay facing the families that he has spent years hurting,” said Christopher Mattei, an attorney representing some of the Sandy Hook families said at the second lawsuit.
