What is SLED in the Murdaugh murder trial?
As the defense deliver their closing arguments it has been revealed that Alex murdaugh lied to SLED about his location at the time of the murders, but what is the organisation?
The Alex Murdaugh trial is coming to a close as the defense team delivers its closing arguments. The disgraced former lawyer is charged with the murder of his wife and youngest son along with a swathe of other charges including corruption and drugs.

While there has been no extra developments over the weekend, people have been looking for answers on what exactly SLED is. This came after Murdaugh revealed he lied to SLED agents about his whereabouts on the day of the murder of his wife and son.

What is SLED?
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is a state-level law enforcement agency that is responsible for investigating and enforcing laws in the state of South Carolina. SLED was created in 1947 and is headquartered in Columbia, South Carolina.
SLED is responsible for a wide range of duties, including criminal investigations, forensic analysis, crime scene investigations, and providing support services to other law enforcement agencies in the state. The agency is also responsible for enforcing state laws related to firearms, explosives, and illegal drugs.

In addition to its investigative and enforcement responsibilities, SLED also operates a number of programmes aimed at promoting public safety and crime prevention in South Carolina. These programs include training for law enforcement officers and civilians, as well as public awareness campaigns and community outreach initiatives.
SLED is headed by a chief who is appointed by the governor of South Carolina and serves as the agency’s director. The chief is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the agency and ensuring that its mission is carried out in accordance with state law and policy. At present this person is Mark Keel, who has been in the position since 2011.
