WORK
What is the best day of the week to apply for a new job? This is what experts say
It may sound a silly proposition by research has shown that companies are more likely to post jobs on certain days over others.
The US jobs market, in the words of financial brokers of the country, is tight. What this means for employers is irrelevant; it’s a good time to be a worker. Low unemployment and a lot of jobs being open gives employees the license to push for that higher pay or break into that new area of work.
Indeed, by 1 July of this year, the US has 9.6 million vacancies for work. Low unemployment means companies are usually less willing to let their staff go, though big cuts will still happen like has been seen in the tech sector in 2023.
In any case, there is no time like the present to search for that next step. It can take a lot of time, making any exercises that can simplify your such very valuable.
Recruiting databases can be the key to that.
The best day to apply for a new job
Job search site ZipRecruiter notes that Tuesday is the best day of the week to apply for a new job. This is because 22 percent, nearly one in four, jobs are posted on that day. Weekends see a patry 6 percent of new jobs added.
“Sundays are not the best day to apply for jobs,” Marissa Morrison, vice president of people at the job search site ZipRecruiter says. “You may be missing the opportunity to be among one of the first to apply for the freshest jobs.”
Indeed, another job search site, argues that Monday is the best day.
“Recruiters are returning to their offices and may be eager to fill open positions,” the site says in its Career guide. “A Monday submission may move your application to the top of their pile, especially compared to individuals who applied on Friday or over the weekend.”
What is clear from both job search sites is that as early as possible is best. Monday and Tuesday are of course at the beginning of the week. Get those applications sorted and fire them off.
Speaking to CNBC’s Make It, Morrison also said that it is crucial to ensure that your application is seen in the first 48 hours.
“It’s important to make sure your resume is viewed by recruiters and eventual hiring managers by being one of those first applicants,” she said.
