To compete with Amazon, many brick-and-mortar retailers like Walmart and Target now offer same-day delivery to those who order online. Walmart has taken another step to increase customer options by extending their express delivery period to 10 p.m. The company says that those who live within a certain radius of a Walmart store will be able to place an order by 9:30 p.m. to receive their delivery by 10 p.m.
The notion that a Walmart Spark delivery driver could shop and deliver the order in thirty minutes seems a bit farfetched. However, since these workers are classified as contractors, the delivery worker knows they may work a bit later than 10 p.m. A total of 4,000 stores will offer the late-night delivery option. So far, there is no tool to identify which stores will extend their hours of operation.
How much does Walmart delivery cost?
For Walmart+ members, who pay $12.95 a month, standard delivery is free for orders over $35 (those under will be charged $6.99). For non-members, delivery will cost between $7.95 and $9.95 (in addition to the price of the products they purchase). However, no customers can escape the $10 fee for Express Delivery.
