What is the payment date for the next Social Security checks in December?
The SSA has already begun sending December Social Security payments. Find out when your next check will be sent this month.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has already begun sending Social Security benefits for the month of December. Over sixty million checks will be delivered this month, with the majority received by retired workers.
Millions of people who receive disability benefits, such as Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and those from the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program, are paid regularly. The distribution of benefits is affected by the New Year, so the SSA’s December schedule includes a few important dates. We will provide you with this schedule to keep you informed.
Which checks have already been sent?
SSI beneficiaries are among the first to receive their benefits, as they are distributed to all recipients on the first of each month. In cases where the first falls on a holiday or weekend, the payments will be made on the previous business day. This month, those receiving SSI benefits will also receive a payment on Friday, December 29th, because the first of January is a federal holiday, and it happens to fall on a weekend. This means two checks will be received in December, and none will be paid in January.
Then, on the third of the month, the SSA sends payments to retirees receiving benefits since May 1997. Again, if the third day falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment is sent on the first business day before.
If you receive both Social Security benefits (retirees, survivors, or SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), you will receive your SSI payment on the first day of the month and your Social Security payment on the third day.
When will the next checks be sent?
The rest of the Social Security checks are sent on Wednesdays, depending on the date of birth of the beneficiaries:
If any payment date falls on a federal holiday, payment is advanced to the first preceding business day.
