The world is in shock following the assassination attempt on former US president Donald Trump, as the Republican Party’s presumptive 2024 presidential candidate spoke at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Early in Trump’s address, a series of gunshots began to ring out, with the 78-year-old seen grimacing, reaching to his ear and taking cover as Secret Service agents rushed to protect him.
When he reappeared, he was bleeding from his right ear, which he later confirmed had been grazed by a bullet.

What did Trump say about what happened at the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania?
“I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.
“Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening.”
The shots fired by the gunman, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, sadly killed one man and injured two others. Crooks was shot dead by Secret Service agents at the scene.
Trump received brief medical care at a local medical center in the immediate aftermath of the incident but flew back home to New Jersey late on Saturday. He was seen waving from his private jet as he disembarked at Newark Airport.
When and where is Donald Trump’s next public appearance?
The assassination attempt took place just a matter of days before Trump’s next public appearance, which is scheduled to take place as planned at the Republic National Convention in Milwaukee. Although not a rally as such and Trump’s official website shows there are “no events scheduled,” his attendance at the RNC has been confirmed.
