The Social Security Administration (SSA) issues millions of payments to beneficiaries of its program every month. Recipients range from retired workers to individuals with some type of disability, who generally fall into the category of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).

The distribution of payments for retired workers and SSDI recipients is made based on the date of birth of the beneficiaries. Those born between the first and tenth days of the month receive their money on the second Wednesday of the month. Those with a date of birth between the 11th and 20th get it on the third, and those from the 21st to the 31st receive it on the fourth Wednesday.

Workers who retired before 1997 and those who receive SSI benefits do not fall into this payment scheme, since the SSA sends them the money on the first day of the month. If a beneficiary receives regular Social Security payments and is also an SSI recipient, the agency will prioritize the SSI payment at the beginning of the month and the regular payment will be issued on the third day.

When do June Social Security checks arrive? Complete calendar

Given the SSA’s distribution calendar, here is the Social Security payment schedule for June, according to official information from the agency.

  • Monday, June 3: Beneficiaries who began receiving their payments before May 1997
  • Wednesday, June 12: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 1st and the 10th
  • Tuesday, June 18: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 11th and the 20th. The payment is sent on Tuesday because the 19th is Juneteenth Day, a federal holiday.
  • Wednesday, June 26: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 21st and the 31st

When the payment date falls on a weekend or holiday, the SSA advances the issuance of payments. For this reason, beneficiaries born between the 11th and 20th will receive their money on Tuesday, June 18, because the 19th is Juneteenth Day, a federal holiday.

SSI recipients do not have any payment scheduled in June, because the check for this month is advanced to Friday, May 31. The original date, June 1, falls on a weekend.

How much money will Social Security beneficiaries receive in June?

The exact amount of a Social Security check will depend on each person’s situation. However, the SSA estimates that the average payment for a retired worker is $1,907 for individuals and $3,303 for couples filing jointly. As for SSI beneficiaries, the estimated check is $943 for individuals and $1,415 for couples.

Social Security payments increase every year thanks to the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA), a measure that serves to ensure that benefits keep up with the inflation rate. In 2024, the increase provided by the COLA was 3.4%.
