The start of Daylight Saving Time in the United States, and therefore the time change, as well as the start of spring, is approaching.

El inicio del horario de verano en Estados Unidos y por lo tanto, el cambio de hora, así como el inicio de la primavera, se acerca.

The start of Daylight Saving Time in the United States, along with the arrival of spring, is approaching. Although both events occur in March, they take place on different dates. Daylight Saving Time comes first, followed several days later by the start of spring.

When does Daylight Saving Time begin in 2026 in the United States?

Twice a year, most Americans need to change the time on their clocks. The adjustments occur in early March, shortly before the beginning of spring, and again in early November.

In the United States, Daylight Saving Time begins on the second Sunday in March. In 2026, the change takes place on Sunday, March 8. At the start of Daylight Saving Time, clocks are set forward by one hour from standard time.

The change occurs at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday. Analog clocks and devices can be set manually before going to bed. Most electronic devices, such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, smartwatches, and others, update automatically.

Daylight Saving Time remains in effect for nearly eight months until the return to standard time in November. In 2026, the clocks will change again on Sunday, November 1, when standard time resumes and clocks must be set back one hour.

When does spring begin in 2026?

Meteorologically, the first official day of spring is March 1. However, the astronomical start comes later. According to Farmers’ Almanac, in 2026 the Northern Hemisphere will welcome spring on Friday, March 20 at 10:46 a.m. ET, with the arrival of the spring equinox. The equinox in March occurs when the Sun crosses the celestial equator from south to north.

During an equinox, the Northern and Southern Hemispheres receive approximately equal amounts of sunlight because neither hemisphere is tilted more toward or farther away from the Sun than the other.

After the spring equinox, many places in the Northern Hemisphere experience more daylight than darkness within a 24-hour period, the opposite happens in the Southern Hemisphere. Daylight hours continue increasing until the summer solstice in June, the day with the longest period of daylight in the Northern Hemisphere.
