According to Farmers’ Almanac, in 2026 the Northern Hemisphere will welcome spring on Friday, March 20 at 10:46 a.m. ET, with the arrival of the spring equinox. The equinox in March occurs when the Sun crosses the celestial equator from south to north.
During an equinox, the Northern and Southern Hemispheres receive approximately equal amounts of sunlight because neither hemisphere is tilted more toward or farther away from the Sun than the other.

In the northern hemisphere, the Spring equinox occurs when the Sun crosses the celestial equator from South to North. It is called the “celestial” equator because it is an imaginary line in the sky above the Earth’s equator.
At the March equinox, the northern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere receive approximately equal amounts of sunlight, since neither half is tilted more toward or away from the Sun than the other.
