When is Black Myth: Wukong coming out: trailer and release date confirmed

Wukong, the souls game based on the novel Journey to the West, confirms its release date at The Game Awards 2023 with an even flashier trailer than usual.

Wukong

Each trailer for Black Myth: Wukong is more beautiful than the last, even though each and every one of them seemed impossible to top at the time. But we will especially remember the one from The Game Awards 2023 because it came with a release date: August 20, 2024 on PS5, PC and Xbox Series

Based on the novel ‘Journey to the West’, a classic of Asian literature that has also inspired works such as Dragon Ball and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, Black Myth: Wukong is an action game that involves fighting against the cream of Chinese mythology. Its premise seems to unite the best of the souls school and surround it with all kinds of dream scenarios.

One of the great souls of 2024

Described as an action RPG from the From Software school, with “over 100 enemy types”, Black Myth: Wukong was developed in Unreal Engine 5 and promises to be around 15 hours long. Its numbers sometimes make us forget that it started out as little more than an indie game developed by seven people (today it has a team of around 30).

In a few years, we’ve gone from everyone doubting its first trailers to everyone waiting to get their hands on it.

The game’s demo came out a few months ago and dispelled any doubts about whether it was playable, and also confirms the three combat stances of its protagonist, the Monkey King. These were seen in the first gameplays from last year, where he was shown in action against several final bosses whose various patterns and weak points presented a major challenge not suitable for the faint of heart.

In the absence of From Software, Black Myth: Wukong seems destined for the throne of souls like in 2024, where it will battle with titles like Rise of the Ronin, the mix of Dark Souls and Ghost of Tsushima, the latest from Team Ninja also present at The Game Awards.
