When is Chinese New Year 2025? This is this year’s Lunar animal
The Chinese New Year is approaching and with it a new animal from the Chinese zodiac will take the place of the dragon.
Millions of people around the world are getting ready to celebrate the Chinese New Year, which will begin on January 29. Unlike the New Year based on the Gregorian calendar, the Chinese calendar is based on the lunar cycle. The date of the Chinese New Year falls on the second new moon after the Winter Solstice, which occurs on December 21.
With the new year also comes a new animal from the Chinese zodiac, which operates on a 12-year cycle. In 2025, the current animal from the zodiac, the dragon, will be replaced by another scaly creature, the snake.
Chinese New Year 2025: Year of the Snake
The snake is the sixth animal in the 12-year calendar. It is said that people born in the Year of the Snake are endowed with the qualities of adaptability, intelligence and sensitivity. They are organized and very efficient, getting straight to work quickly and quietly.
They are said to be generally amiable and easy-going, able to move through social spheres elegantly with their excellent communication skills. They are also even-tempered, capable of remaining calm and collected when there is an emergency.
Like serpents in the wild, they can be colorful and very creative making them fascinating to others. They generally have a wide range of hobbies and interests and are often artistic. They are also good at using deception, while they don’t typically lie, when necessary if they feel they can get away with it.
However, snakes have another side to them. Their colorful personality can be perceived as being ostentatious. They can also be emotionally detached, making them seem cold and selfish at times. This can cause problems in emotional relationships, especially if they struggle to be vulnerable which can lead to people distrusting them, and they of others.
As well as swapping animals every year, Chinese tradition gives an element (metal, wood, water, fire, earth) to the lucky representative, and this year it’s wood, which is said to represent both vitality and creativity.
