On Tuesday, Sept. 10, the first presidential debate will be held between Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump. Meanwhile, vice presidential candidates Democrat Tim Walz and Republican J. D. Vance have also agreed to participate in a debate.

In mid-August, the governor of Minnesota and Trump’s running mate accepted CBS’s invitation to participate in a vice presidential face-to-face.

“The American people deserve as many debates as possible, which is why President Trump has already challenged Kamala to three of them. Not only am I accepting the CBS debate on October 1st, but also the CNN debate on September 18th. I look forward to seeing you at both!” Vance shared on social media at the time.

When is the vice presidential debate between Tim Walz and JD Vance?

The first vice presidential debate will take place on Oct. 1 at the CBS studios in New York City. The time has not yet been confirmed, but it could take place around 9 p.m. ET, the time when the debate between Trump and then-candidate Joe Biden was held, as well as the scheduled time for the meeting between the former president and Harris.

The Oct. 1 debate will be moderated by Norah O’Donnell, anchor and editor-in-chief of “CBS Evening News,” and Margaret Brennan, moderator of “Face the Nation” and CBS News chief foreign affairs correspondent.

Will there be a second vice presidential debate between Tim Walz and JD Vance?

Although CNN has confirmed that it has invited both vice presidential candidates to a second debate in September and Vance has revealed that he has accepted, Walz’s participation is not yet certain.

Michael Tyler, communications director for Harris-Walz 2024, said in a statement in August that Trump’s campaign had accepted his proposal for one vice presidential debate.

Vance responded, “Seriously, if you want to be vice president of the United States, you need to make your case directly to the American people. A debate is an opportunity to make your case to voters without a teleprompter or a script. I can’t imagine why anyone would say no.”
